Excellent little model

Pros: Good runner, Nicely detailed, Reasonable price

Freight locos are a rather unglamorous subject for modellers, but they were also the workhorses of the railway network. The bog-standard 0-6-0 is pretty much essential to any steam-era layout, but until this model came out the only ready-to-run example for LMS or Midland Region BR modellers was the rather outdated Airfix 4F. So this is welcome simply because it fills an important gap, and that alone makes it a key acquisition. But it's all the better because it's also an extremely good model.

I'm not a rivet counter, so I can't comment on the precise detail, but judging by photos of the prototype this captures the look and feel very well. You can't see it in the standard catalogue photo, but the cab detail is excellent and the model as a whole is well-finished. It's also a very good runner. And the price is reasonable, too, especially if you can pick one up at a discount.
