Manufacturer's Description

The Class 423 or 4-VEP of which 194 were built during the years of 1967 to 1974 mainly saw service working Suburban services out of South London as well as rural services in Kent and Sussex until withdrawal in 2005.

Originally, all of the Class 423 4 VEPs were painted in all over Rail Blue, however, the blue and grey coaching stock livery was eventually applied to all of the Class by the mid-1980s, a livery which they carried until the new Sector liveries started to be applied towards the end of the decade.
